No More Google Ads on Life User!

Good news if you don't like banner ads: now you don't have to see any on Life User.

Revenues from AdSense (the "Ads by Google" that were appearing in blocks on the sidebar) have been almost nothing over the past few months, so I've deleted them. Hopefully, this will make Life User more attractive to post sponsors (which are where all the real money's come from lately), since they won't have to compete with the ads for your attention. Maintaining the archive doesn't cost me anything, soit makes sense to give it away to promote post sponsorship.

I also tried AdBrite for a while. Revenues were a little better, but it took so long to manually filter the ads that it wasn't worthwhile. If I didn't filter the ads, two thirds of them were unacceptable. I suppose Life User isn't well-suited to the pay-per-click (PPC) revenue model. Apparently theme blogs do better in PPC, but I'm not ready to start, maintain and promote a theme blog.

Apart from sponsored posts themselves, no ads will appear alongside posts made after September 27, 2009. (Older posts that had Amazon Associates links and widgets will still have them. Even if they continue not to make any money, the widgets are useful because they either illustrate how to set up widgets or provide licensed samples of the songs reviewed.)

  1. I would be interested to hear how your experiment has gone since you decided to generate revenue through a blog.
