Silicon Valley North: Why Ottawa and Not Toronto?

My sponsor for this post, Web design Joomla Ottawa, is an Ottawa website design firm, which reminds me of a question that's been bugging me for a long time. Why does Ottawa, and not Toronto, have a big enough IT industry to be called Silicon Valley North?

Not only does Toronto's metropolitan area have 4.5 times the population of Ottawa's, but we also have five times as many people who speak English, the language on which almost all programming languages are based. Plus, without Canada's national capital, we don't "need" as many politicians or lobbyists, leaving more brain power for such industries as IT. We're also closer to Ontario's technical universities (Waterloo, UOIT and Ryerson).

Come on, Toronto! We can do better!
