The Kindness of Strange Sponsors

The post sponsorships I've been offered since I joined PayPerPost in the fall have been a weird mix. Three on vision correction, one on chocolate, one on TVs, one for a Web design firm (who's much more local than my readership is), one on religious views, and tonight, one on real estate. But so far, I've always been able to figure out what the sponsor was selling easily enough. Not so with tonight's next sponsor.

The sponsor's products are Matter Management, Legal Hold and E Billing. I've managed to figure out three things about them:
  1. They're software.
  2. They're available both as software-as-a-service, and through the type of old-fashioned off-the-shelf licences that open source is rapidly killing.
  3. They're meant to help lawyers manage their firms or departments.
I've never written about the legal profession before, and I doubt Life User will ever attract more than its share of lawyers or legal staff as readers (at least, I hope it won't :-) ). Why the sponsor wants to buy this post, then, is anyone's guess, but I'm sure someone had what at least seemed like a good enough reason. Marketing departments work in mysterious ways.
