Welcome to the first installment of Underrated Classic. In this new occasional feature, I'll review an older movie, album or book that deserved a lot more critical acclaim than it got, and a result can be picked up on the cheap.

When director Brett Leonard's science-fiction movie The Lawnmower Man was released in 1992, New Line Cinema tried to convince us that it was based on Stephen King's short fantasy story of the same name. It wasn't, and I think this is the main reason why such a great film opened to mixed reviews.
