If there were any justice in this world, the Swedish electronic/metal band Machinae Supremacy would be among the best-known rock bands in the world. With both generic and specific references to video games, sci-fi animé and occasionally English literature, and a clear but not overplayed message to be different, think, learn and evolve, MaSu is a thinking young man's band.

In my last post, I reviewed Manowar's newest release, the EP Thunder in the Sky
, and decided it wasn't up to Manowar standards. But what are those standards, and what were the songs that set them? This article will attempt to answer those questions and recommend which songs to start with if you're new to Manowar.

Thunder in the Sky (EP)
Manowar
Manowar's first concept album, Gods Of War,
told the stories of Odin, Thor and Loki from Norse mythology. While this was a wise choice of source material for a band that has created a world that's all about battles (more about this in my next post), critics — myself included — panned the album for relying too heavily on spoken word and unmetallic songs to get the story across.
But this was only the first in a series of Manowar concept albums. Will they do better in the future? If their EP Thunder in the Sky is any indication (as it should be, since it's billed as the prequel to the second concept album Hammer of the Gods), the answer is a resounding no.

One of the great advantages YouTube has over MTV or MuchMusic is how well it caters to metalheads, no matter the subgenre. You can see a Tupac or Britney Spears video anywhere, but no TV channel will regularly supply your fix of Dream Theater or System of a Down. While pop videos rely on cleavage and ridiculously frequent cuts to hold viewers' interest, and hip-hop videos rely on flashy cars, jewelry and guns, many metal videos can be legitimately called works of art. Here are five of the best official videos you'll only find online.
